Privacy Policy
How we collect, use, and protect your personal information.
Last updated: April 10, 2025
Overview
Civvie (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our civic engagement platform.
Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect your email address and optional name.
Location Data
We collect your approximate location (city/neighborhood level) to show you relevant local government content. We intentionally “fuzz” precise coordinates to protect your privacy — we never store your exact address.
Interests and Preferences
Topics you choose to track (e.g., “school budget,” “road construction”) are stored to personalize your alerts and feed.
Usage Data
We track which documents you view, expand, or share to improve our recommendations and understand which content is most valuable to users.
How We Use Your Information
- To provide personalized civic content relevant to your location and interests
- To send email digests and alerts about topics you're tracking
- To improve our AI summaries and content recommendations
- To communicate service updates and important announcements
- To analyze aggregate usage patterns (never individual behavior)
Data Security
We use industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (HTTPS), encrypted data at rest, and secure authentication. However, no system is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your Rights and Choices
- Access: View your data anytime in Settings
- Correction: Update your information in Settings
- Deletion: Request account deletion by contacting us
- Email Preferences: Adjust digest frequency or unsubscribe in Settings
- Interest Management: Add or remove tracked topics anytime
Data Retention
We retain your account data as long as your account is active. Interaction data (views, clicks) is retained for 90 days for analytics, then aggregated and anonymized. If you delete your account, we remove your personal data within 30 days.
Children's Privacy
Civvie is not intended for users under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will notify you of significant changes via email or a prominent notice on our service.
